Forest Camping :
Forest camps have become the ultimate focus of wildlife conservation in the whole world. Since the days when natural wilderness and wildlife of the the world cam under threat, the wildlife authorities of forests preservation societies, started of a new kind of awareness programme, which will educate the people about nature and its preservation in a better way and that's how, wild camps came into being.
Forest camping is not very different from normal camping, except the wild camping doesn't get restricted to season or any adventure activity. It works as a recreational program and there isn't any age limit in this. Any one who likes to explore nature and want to learn the facts about what nature has given to us and what we can give in return, can take up this camping expedition
Summer Camping
The memory of camp is conitnuing and she is very excited to tell her camp story to anyone and everyone. This is the last week of summer vacation and this camp will be remembered even after this summer.
Enroute to the frontiers of civilisation in the Himalayas, the Banjara camp at Chail is a welcome break. A picturesque, thickly forested tract of land at 2000m, Chail was once the summer retreat of the Maharaja of Patiala. With its carpet of lush green meadows and thick Deodar forests, Chail offers a tranquillity simply unimaginable in today's fast paced life.
The world's highest cricket pitch is located here at the famous "King George Royal Indian Military College". While from one side of Chail you can see the twinkling night lights of Shimla, you get a glimpse of the Choor Chandani peak, the highest in this region of the Himalayas.
The best time for camping in the higher altitudes of Himachal Pradesh is between the summer months of April to October. Temperatures are comfortable at this time of the year with little or no rainfall. However, nights can still be chilly. Winters are too cold with heavy snowfall.
Culture Camping
Camping is perhaps the best way to enjoy the natural outdoors of Himachal and being part of the life of its people. You can carry your own gear along or opt for any one of the several camps pitched in various parts of the state. These camps offer accommodation, catering and a variety of activities like hiking, fishing, nature-tours and rafting. Most of these offer quality facilities and services. Himachal Tourism operates camps at Sarchu in Lahaul besides built accommodation. Tents are available at Sangla and Kalpa in Kinnaur and at Kaza in Spiti.
The Youth Hostel Association of india runs camps at Dalhousie (Chamba) and at Kullu-Manali. Camps run by the private sector are at Baspa (Sangla) valley and Kalpa in Kinnaur, at Tabo in Spiti, at Al Hilal (Taragarh) and Dharamsala in Kangra, at Shoja near Kullu and Mashobra and Baldian near Shimla.
